All papillomaviruses have a non-coding region between the end of the L1 and the beginning of E6 ORFs. This region has been alternatively named the URR (Upstream Regulatory Region), the LCR (Long Control Region) or the NCR (Non-coding region). This region contains the replication origin (containing binding sites for the E1 and E2 proteins) and transcriptional enhancer and promoter sequences. The late polyadenylation signal is at the 5' end of the URR.
